The giant swaths of land that make up the US National Parks might seem like they’re low maintenance — all those trees, rocks, lakes and rivers take care of themselves, right? If only it were so. Park ranger job duties include everything from leading nature tours to helping suppress wildfires. If you’ve ever visited a park, you probably owe these stewards a thank you. One way you can do that today is by buying Parks Project’s new Ranger Fanny Pack, which is made out of pants worn by actual park rangers.
Yes, you read that correctly. To create its limited run of hip bags, Parks Project upcycled official decommissioned ranger uniforms, using the fabric to make a pack big enough to carry a 32-ounce water bottle. That means that woven into the wool and polyester fabric is the sweat and grit that’s required to keep America’s wildest lands pristine and safe (sort of — the materials were cleaned before fanny pack production). As with all Parks Project creations, a chunk of the money that the Ranger Fanny Pack earns will go directly back into supporting the National Parks.
