A common argument against using outdoor gear in daily life is that it can be so function-forward, it’s ugly. Drybags have always been as technical as bags can be — many come off as thick-skinned, extra-extra-extra-tough garbage bags with buckles — but a company called Dew aims to change that with its forthcoming Avo drybag backpack.
Most drybags are minimalist by design; their primary objective is keeping liquid out, and they don’t offer much in the way of features. But the Avo adjusts that conception in the hopes of boosting versatility — the bag has exterior pockets for small items, a water bottle sleeve, a foam bottom for impact resistance to protect what’s inside and the reflective detailing that you’d expect on a bike commuter bag. Perhaps the smartest feature is a laptop sleeve — a must-have in any backpack designed for everyday use — that’s removable when you don’t need it and includes its own shoulder straps for when the rest of the Avo is overkill.
The Avo will be available for preorder on Kickstarter on June 18 for roughly $87.
