The first step to making a pocket knife last long enough to become a family heirloom is to keep its blade sharp.

A pocket knife can last long enough to become a family heirloom, but only if you take care of it properly. Thankfully, maintenance is an easy four-step process (check out our guide on how to clean and maintain a pocket knife for more information on this), and Benchmade and Worksharp are teaming up to make the step one, keeping the blade sharp, easy with their new EDC Edge Maintenance Tool.

Coming out on July 1, the Edge Maintenance Tool has everything you need to quickly put an edge on your favorite knife in a compact, pocketable form (it even has a clip, just like your favorite knife). The tool is stapler-like, unfolding on an anodized pivot to provide access to a ceramic rod for honing an edge and, on the other side, a leather strop for finishing. There are also built-in angle guides to help you perfect your technique, which adds to this little tool’s primary advantage: it makes maintaining a pocket knife quick and easy. Now, go make sure it’s clean and well-oiled.
