This Might Be the Perfect Bag for Outdoor Photography

Evoc, the sport-oriented German bag maker, just revealed a new outdoor photography bag (and it isn’t a backpack).

Mountain bikers know something that nineties-obsessed streetwear connoisseurs who brought back the fanny pack don’t: hip packs have always been cool. And, more importantly, they’re practical. When a backpack is overkill and a saddlebag insufficient for whatever you need on a ride, there’s the hip pack. Evoc, a German sport bag maker, knows this, and now it’s applying that knowledge to a different pursuit: photography.

Evoc’s new photography collection includes a rolling bag with lots of storage and a full range of backpacks in various volumes, but its Hip Pack Capture is the standout. The bag has seven liters of storage capacity, six of which are dedicated to a main compartment that can be organized for different camera setups or accessories with a system of padded dividers. There are also smaller pockets for things like memory cards, your phone and trail snacks, and straps on the bottom to hold onto a tripod, too.

Photographers will get the same benefits from carrying their gear on the hips instead of the back that mountain bikers do: quick access (and less sweat). Just swivel the bag around and your camera/drone/GoPro/whatever is right there. Plus, the Hip Pack Capture has two sleeves for carrying water bottles without using up any interior space and a built-in rain cover (just in case) — two features that make it particularly well-suited to hiking and, of course, mountain biking.

The Hip Pack Capture will be available later this summer for $100.
