Osprey is well-known for its hiking backpacks — walk a section of the Appalachian, and you’re bound to see one — but its latest bags are for mountain biking. The Colorado-based company designed its new Katari hydration packs using many of the same principles and technologies that make carrying 50 pounds over hundreds of miles manageable though, like an airmesh backpanel and soft shoulder straps. Osprey skipped things that might get in the way while you’re hunched over the handlebars, like a hipbelt. And while the Katari bags, which are available in 1.5, 3 and 7-liter sizes, are for mountain bikers, that doesn’t mean they’d be ill-suited to a quick hike either.
