Krudo Knives’ KARSIN010 Folder isn’t a typical pocket knife, not even at first glance. It includes a 3.5-inch drop-point blade made of 9Cr18MoV stainless steel and uses a flipper tab or thumb stud to open and a frame lock to stay that way, but none of these things are ordinary. Each of these features is distinctive in ways that are customarily Krudo — the knife’s belly is curved yet subtly angular, the handle is inlaid with oversized carbon fiber inserts, and its flipper tab is skeletonized and chunky.
Louis Krudo, the designer and founder behind Krudo Knives, sketched the first iteration of the KARSIN010 on a napkin. That drawing eventually became two knives, both of which use what’s perhaps the most apparent feature: a full-sized thumb stud that Krudo calls a “thumb wedge.” The wedge looks like a Dremel bit that’s been sliced diagonally. Like typical thumb studs, it’s used for opening the blade, but it also provides an angled platform for the thumb to rest on when gripped. Practicality is the goal here, but the result is a pocket knife that might’ve come out of the pages of a steam-punk graphic novel.
The KARSIN010, which was just announced and is currently available for pre-order, is billed as an everyday blade but its tactical design is hard to ignore. The knife is expected to ship in March.
