Whew! That all seemed quick. Somehow, the end of the year always takes us by surprise. It’s easy to feel that it all went by so fast and yet when we look back at everything that’s happened in the past 12 months, we realize that we really have come a long way. In camping and outdoor gear, 2018 was both reassuringly predictable and delightfully surprising.
Sleeping bags got lighter, and coolers got portable; old standbys like the spork received a welcome redesign; companies old and new embraced the continually-growing lifestyle trend while doubling down on producing technical pieces for hardcore adventurers. If anything can be gleaned from reviewing all of the camping and outdoor products that came out in 2018, it’s that companies are working harder than ever to get more people out into nature and to make them as comfortable as possible — so that they can focus on enjoying the experience.
