Knives with colorized handles aren’t a new thing, but they are for SOG. The company, which was founded with a single Bowie-style knife inspired by one used by a classified Special Ops unit working in Vietnam called MACV-SOG, rarely strays beyond the traditional black and steel look. But it recently broke that habit with the limited re-release of the Twitch with white and ultraviolet handles, marking the first time the company has added color to its blade recipe.
Unlike that original Bowie knife, the Twitch is geared for everyday use. It comes in three sizes — with two-, 2.65- and 3.25-inch blade lengths — and all employ AUS-8 steel in a drop-point blade shape with handles of anodized aluminum. The Twitch collection also uses SOG Assisted Technology, applying a mechanism that includes opposing high-tension coil springs to create a fast assisted open. Purple and white handles may not seem like a massive departure from SOG’s formula, but it’s notable as a play toward a youthful and eclectic EDC crowd nonetheless.
