You’ve heard of a plant-based diet, and now plant-based sneakers are coming to a store near you. Reebok’s Cotton + Corn sneaker aims to solve the sustainability problem around shoes. Each year, 20 billion pairs of shoes are made using petroleum, which isn’t great for the environment. Reebok wanted to flip the script and use materials that come from the ground instead. The Cotton + Corn sneaker combines a 100 percent cotton upper with a corn-based sole and insoles from castor bean oil. It’s 75 percent USDA certified biobased, and just the start for Reebok. You can check out the shoes online today and buy them starting August 14.
