We go through a lot of backpacks here at Gear Patrol — afterall, we love to pack light, and that means investing in a carry-on that holds a significant amount of gear — whether that’s camera equipment, extra hiking boots, or just enough for a lazy weekend in the Adirondacks. The new Aer Travel Pack 2 promises to store all that we need, fits snugly on top of a rolling bag and will hold up to even the most demanding of travel routes, even if you have to check it.

The clamshell design allows for easy packing and unpacking, and the separate zip pocket in the bottom of the bag keeps sneakers or dirty clothes compartmentalized from the rest of your gear. The padded laptop pocket with YKK zippers allows for easy access, and the 1680D Cordura ballistic nylon exterior protects your bag from rapidly approaching waterworks and will hold up against drops, scuffs and scratches. Some of our favorite touches include the expandable water bottle pocket, ergonomic shoulder straps and the adjustable side straps to expand (or shrink) the bag from a backpack to a daypack.

Beyond basic black, this carry-on approved backpack also comes in a gray or black camo. If you’re lugging around a ton of weight, check out the hip belt to alleviate some of the pressure on your lower back.
