Seiichi Nakamura describes his knifemaking style as “simple, user-friendly and good-looking,” and his latest work, a collaboration with Benchmade, is certainly that.
The 486 Saibu (which translates to “details”) is a seven-inch knife with a three-inch blade, and it reeks of Nakamura’s Japan-forward aesthetic. A bamboo-styled metal backspacer, Cocobolo wood window touches, total weight below three ounces and an AXIS lock mechanism round out the non-blade features. The blade itself is ground flat with a drop point with satin-finished, 20CV steel (this is a pretty good thing), and it will cut and last for longer than you need it to.
The Saibu is part of Benchmade’s 2018 Artist Collaboration series. All knives in the collection are available now.
