There doesn’t need to be an update to the classic Bic lighter, but in Power Practical’s forthcoming Sparkr Flip we have one anyway. The Flip looks like the sci-fi lighter of the future, and because it uses electricity instead of butane to create a contained plasma beam instead of a flame, it sort of is. Gravity does not affect the beam and Power Practical has added a switch on the bottom of the lighter — right next to its micro USB charging port — that lets users ignite the plasma while dipping it into hard-to-reach places, like a jar containing a partially-used candle.

Power Practical is also re-imagining the long-necked, trigger-style lighters with its Sparkr Wick, which also uses plasma. Both lighters are already funded on Kickstarter with days left in their campaign and are slated to ship later this year.
