Opinel’s now-iconic No. 8 knife dates back to 1890 when Joseph Opinel began building simple folders in his workshop in the Savoie region of the French Alps. The No. 8 is a straightforward pocket knife with a steel blade, rotating lock and a wooden handle — that’s it. Little has changed about the No. 8 because nothing needs to, but the knife is available with a variety of wood types for the handle. The just-released Workshop Series No. 8 handle is made of ebony and walnut scraps taken from Opinel’s factory floor. Unlike the timeless blonde-toned beechwood handle No. 8, only 100 of these limited-edition handles were produced.
