Garmin used to be the only game in town when it came to GPS-enabled bike computers. Their Edge series was more or less your only option to upload rides to Strava, track routes, and monitor speed, power and cadence. Then the competition caught up. Wahoo introduced its excellent, perfectly-reduced ELEMNT and ELEMNT Bolt, which featured all the performance and convenience you’d need without clutter like color screens, app stores and power metrics based on hyper-specific training programs.
Thankfully, Garmin may be hinting at a return to form — or at least a line of simplified, distilled computers — with the new Edge 130. It’s small (Velonews described it as “lilliputian”), it’s simple and it’s priced at $200 which makes it $50 cheaper than the ELEMNT Bolt or Garmin’s own Edge 520. The best news is it doesn’t skimp out on anything you need to make sure everyone in the group knows that your power output on that last climb was “basically at a pro level”.
