With Patagonia entering the workwear scene with its line of Iron Forge hemp canvas clothing and new brands like 1620 producing their own, often expensive, take on durable apparel, it’s become plain that workwear has become a trend. And with more names in the space, what qualifies as workwear has broadened, but one thing’s still true: whether it’s a pair of dungarees or a t-shirt, workwear has to be tough-as-nails rugged — style is secondary.

Duluth Trading Co.’s Fire Hose Ultimate Apron Vest is workwear hyperbole. Durable? Duluth constructed it with eight-ounce DuluthFlex Fire Hose cotton canvas, (which contains a touch of spandex for added mobility). In a real testament to utility, a quality that should be inherent in all workwear garments, Duluth gave the Apron Vest 27 pockets. Those run the gamut from four reinforced nail pouches with built-in sawdust drains to a hidden inner chest pocket for stashing a phone in. How you use the other 21 is up to you — who knows, it may just replace your tool belt.
