When Bladerunners Systems (BRS) was founded, it dedicated itself to producing the best balisong knives available; now it’s tackling the folder. Balisong knives, also known as butterfly knives, exist within a niche part of the knife market. Because they are often classified as weapons and are illegal in many states and countries, balisongs haven’t drawn as broad of a following as fixed blades and folders — they aren’t quite everyday carry.
It was precisely that specialty that informed BRS’s engagement with the knife’s core following, but with its new folding pocket knives, BRS is taking aim at the general market. The first of this growing collection is the Minuteman, a 3.5-inch bladed folder made of S35VN stainless steel and titanium handles. The knife, built in collaboration with Blackstone Valley Knifeworks, features a plain edge and a curved Wharncliffe point, which, along with the hard angles created by the lines its handle, creates a decidedly contemporary look.
BRS will continue to increase production of its trademark balisong knives as it continues to collaborate with other brands and launch new folders throughout the year.
