SOG’s just-revealed 2018 knife collection is its most compact annual release in a long time — just four knives, three multitools and a bottle opener — but it’s not without a few notable standouts. The 8.6-inch Ace takes an uncomplicated and utilitarian approach to a classic clip-point fixed-blade with a notched plastic sheath that leaves a segment of the blade safely exposed to allow for cord and belt cutting. On the folder side, there’s the SOG-TAC California Special, which SOG designed specifically to meet California state laws regulating knives with automatic opening mechanisms. And then there’s the Powerlitre, a 4.6-ounce compact multitool that packs 17 features including, for the first time in a SOG tool, a corkscrew.
