The Backcountry Boiler just recently stepped on the Kickstarter scene, but the project has been a labor of love for Devin Montgomery for quite some time. In fact, check out his blog theboilerwerks and you can follow his development process from start to finish. The central concept behind the device was to develop a sensible and eco-friendly way to create hot meals and drinks while outdoors. Unlike WhisperLItes and other fossil-fuel dependent heat sources, the Backcountry Boiler can efficiently burn virtually anything flammable like paper, pine cones, or sticks. It’s also fast and capable of boiling two cups of water in under 5 minutes using only a handful or 1.5oz of fuel. Don’t worry about foul weather either, since the protected combustion chamber dries wet fuel quickly and even channels the wind to fuel the flames. Pledge $60 or more to his project, and not only will you help Devin improve his production process and product, but you’ll also receive a bare bones version of the boiler. Up that to $105, and you’ll receive an individually-numbered, hard anodized Boiler with custom stopper and slick soft-shell sleeve/stuff sack — at least while they’re still available.
