Icebreaker Releases Its First-Ever Line of Urban-Outdoor Basics

The new line represents a striking paradigm shift for Icebreaker.

Icebreaker, the Auckland-based company that helped pioneer the use of merino wool in modern outdoor apparel, announced its first-ever line of urban lifestyle basics: the TABI Collection. The new line represents a striking paradigm shift for Icebreaker, who has rarely, if ever, been associated with urban-adventure apparel; its products are found mostly on ski slopes and campgrounds, where technical details often outshine any semblance of thoughtful styling.

Much of this paradigm shift can be attributed to Goldwin, the cutting-edge Japanese outerwear and apparel company who helped design the TABI Collection. Each piece in the collection has an unmistakeable Goldwin aesthetic: clean lines, near-invisible seams, subdued colors. And, true to Icebreaker’s claim to fame, each piece is made entirely of high-grade merino wool, sourced from the wild hills of New Zealand. The TABI Collection will launch on Icebreaker’s website on Oct. 20.
