On Friday, August 25, all 59 U.S. National Parks will open their gates to the American public, waiving entry and commercial tour fees in celebration of the National Park Service’s 101-year anniversary. Normally, National Parks charge entry fees ranging from $3 to $30; free admission days are intended to make “America’s Best Idea” more accessible to citizens and tourists alike. The NPS has a handy online tool for finding National Parks nearest to you, but if you’re up for a road trip, we suggest visiting some lesser-known gems. The parks will remain open for one day; the next fee-free day is September 30, National Public Lands Day.
