Robin Williams lived a majority of his life in Marin County, California, a mecca for both road cycling and mountain biking. He was a passionate cyclist, an accomplished collector of bicycles and a compassionate supporter of people with disabilities. His children have donated a selection of favorites from his personal bicycle collection to be auctioned off in support of the Challenged Athletes Foundation and Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.
The range of bicycles reveals an aficionado’s passion, with small, American hand-built builders like Independent Fabrication (NH) alongside great frame builders from Europe, like Italian Dario Pegoretti. It also shows a collection of UCI team bikes, from Trek’s USPS days to Pinarello’s Team Sky Dogma. There’s also plenty of surprises and a bit of levity, as one may expect. It’s not hard to imagine Williams in the saddle, cruising along in Tiburon or climbing up Mount Tamalpais, sweating lightly and grinning from ear to ear.
Bidding is open until October 25. See the full collection, here.
