Golf has for better or worse has been labeled a “fair weather” sport. Many golfers hightail it for the 19th hole at the first hint of precipitation. That’s too bad. With the proper armaments, facing down a rain shower can be easy, dare I say, routine. If you can stay dry your golf game should remain intact. Who knows, you may even have your own Caddyshack moment.

Recently we put the Nike Storm-FIT N-Destrukt Jacket ($400) and Pants ($250) through the Gear Patrol torture test to see if they were as good as advertised or if they were all, well, wet.

N-Destrukt Jacket

Constructed of Nike’s Storm-FIT fabric that repels both wind and rain the N-Destrukt Jacket ($400) keeps you bone dry even in the face of driving rain. With welded seams and no-sew construction the jacket is impenetrable. Yet somehow manages to remain remarkable breathable. Even in the near 75 degree temps I tested it in. The jacket fit well, and more importantly, moved fluidly during my swing. With the addition of a mock neck, Velcro adjustable cuffs and a bungie pull hem the fit can be as snug or loose as you prefer. Overall, the N-Destrukt Jacket excels at providing maxim protection with minimal fabric and swing interference. Oh, and did I mention it looks bloody amazing in black with silver accents?

N-Destrukt Pants

Made from the same Storm-FIT fabric as the jacket the N-Destrukt Pants ($250) have all the bells and whistles one could ask for from rain slacks. A built-in adjustable-belt helps keep the pants from sliding down and becoming a distraction. Similarly, adjustable snaps at the ankle help to prevent water from splashing up your legs. We really liked the incorporation of both zip pockets and cargo style flap pockets. Perfect for handling all of the golf gear, gadgets, and goodies you can throw at them. We paired our pants with the Nike Air Zoom Bandon for a perfect foul weather wardrobe.

The Nike Storm-FIT N-Destrukt Jacket and Pants offer first-rate wind and precipitation protection coupled with genuine comfort. Which is saying a lot given that it’s a rain suit after all. If you’re someone who refuses to miss a tee time or soldiers on when the skies open then this is clearly the outfit for you. The Bishop would be proud.

Editor’s Note: The Nike Storm-FIT N-Destrukt Jacket and Pants are sold separately and we opted to do mixed sizes. A medium jacket for a more snug fit, but went with a large pant since they have to fit over your existing bottoms. The large gave us a little added room and while they are slightly longer the N-Destrukt Pants have a set of snaps inside the pant cuff to help shorten them if necessary. Just something to consider when choosing your sizes.
