When one thinks about innovation in golf design, it’s hard not to conjure the infamous shape of the Odyssey 2-Ball. When it was first released back in 2001, the 2-Ball’s aesthetics seemed decidedly funky. However, it didn’t take golfers long to figure out the most important thing about the putter and its revolutionary alignment-friendly design – they just plain worked. Now, nearly a decade and more than 30 iterations later, Odyssey’s White Ice 2-Ball model takes the design’s proven attributes and mixes in some new technology and customization features to create the best 2-Ball yet.
The most prominent feature of the 2-Ball putter is, well, the 2-Ball part. That refers to the white, golf ball-shaped alignment aids that adorn the top of the putter. The idea here is that, when you address the ball, you’re looking down at what appears to be a line of golf balls pointing towards your intended line. It’s a devilishly intuitive idea that’s wildly effective at sending putts where you want them to go. That’s the hallmark of the 2-Ball line. This new, White Ice version, packs in some features to help you make even more putts. Its premium dark nickel finish isn’t too shabby to look at either.
The White Ice moniker refers to Odyssey’s latest face insert technology that’s been fine-tuned to enhance sound, responsiveness, resiliency, and consistency. Primarily, the insert’s core has been firmed up by nearly 20% to enhance feel and the face surface has been roughened to enhance performance with today’s softer golf balls.
Take NotePutting is about confidence. If you have trouble visualizing the line of your putts and thus believing that every one is going to find the bottom of the cup, the 2-Ball is for you. For real.
In our testing, the most revolutionary feature of this latest 2-Ball is Odyssey’s inclusion of an adjustable weighting system. One of the greatest limiting factors of typical putters is their weight, as various players may have trouble dialing in distance based on a putter’s stock weighting. To overcome this problem, Odyssey has included swappable weight chips that will set the clubhead up at 350g, 360g, or 370g. Though it may not sound like a large variance, the difference in weights can really allow recreational players to find a feel that works best for them.
