29er bikes may be a point of division for hard-core mountain biking enthusiasts, but we’re not looking to enter that debate at this time. That’s because all performance pros and cons listing aside, the Niner Air 9 Carbon Fiber Bike is an engineering masterpiece worth talking about. Designed off of Niner’s Air 9 Scandium race frame, this version is built from a completely new carbon fiber chassis which weighs a ridiculously low 2.8 pounds. Niner also claims it’s the only Carbon 29er mountain bike in the world that can also be run as a single-speed or geared bike depending on preferences thanks to its versatile bottom bracket hole.

Meant to be flexible for both downhill, and all mountain use, its hardtail (a.k.a rear suspension-less) design incorporates alloy at critical structural junctions, enhancing the bike’s durability despite its light weight build. Sold in “Tang” and “Vana White” color options, this unique frame will finally be available in March after being announced back in 2009 for a hard-core enthusiast price of $1,899. However eager beavers can reserve a frame now with a $500 deposit.
