This Ridiculously Affordable Street Motorcycle Is a Guaranteed Envy Inducer

The latest eye-popping edition of Triumph’s Speed T4 only makes this particular forbidden fruit more enticing.

Considering I’ve waxed ecstatic about Royal Enfield’s 452cc FT450 and Honda’s 348cc GB350 recently, it’s safe to say I am pretty enamored with small-displacement motorcycles at the moment.

And why wouldn’t I be? These bikes are not only super approachable and affordable, they also happen to look fantastic.

The fact that the majority of the bike is black and silver gives the fresh orange accent a bit more, ahem, juice.

The latest one to catch my eye just happens to fit right between those two in terms of size and styling.

I’m talking about the beautiful, budget-friendly new Triumph Speed T4 with the pitch-perfect Baja Orange fuel tank, of course.

While it kinda sounds like a Mountain Dew flavor, this Baja Orange tank treatment is just glorious.

Though its limited availability is responsible for most of the (personal) envy in the title of this story, there’s an alternative that scratches a similar itch. I’ll dish on that one here, too, I promise.

Baja blast

While it kinda sounds like a Mountain Dew flavor, this Baja Orange tank treatment — deep orange and dark gray bisected by a diagonal strip of silver — is just glorious.

That fact admittedly increases the sting of the T4 only being available in India, as a product of Triumph’s partnership with Bajaj Auto India, which is going on five years now.

Perhaps only Royal Enfield can rival Triumph when it comes to consistently nailing retro aesthetics.

For what it’s worth, the T4 is essentially an even more affordable version of a bike you can get in the U.S., the Speed 400.

Nicely priced at $5,295, that’s a scrappy urban ride that just got a snazzy new Carnival Red/Storm Grey tank treatment itself.

But the stripped-down India-only edition packs its own unique charms that make it an even more compelling street beast, especially at the equivalent of less than half the price. Egads.

City slicker

From a performance standpoint, the Speed T4 carries the exact same 398cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine as the Speed 400.

But here it’s actually tuned down to roughly 31 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 27 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm.

Powering a sub-400-pound bike, the 398cc engine should provide plenty of pop for urban escapades.

That should give it a bit more oomph down low, which could come in handy on the daily.

It also eschews electronics and gets standard forks, as opposed to the 400’s upside-down ones

Interestingly, the T4 is actually a bit heavier (397 pounds vs 375) and higher-seated (31.7 inches vs 31.1 inches) than the Speed 400.

If we’re looking to nitpick, the Speed T4 is slightly heavier and taller than the Speed 400. So there’s that.
Triumph Motorcycles

Just a bit of consolation to those who can’t get the former. At least not yet, anyway.

Perhaps if we keep beating the drum for small wonders like this one, Triumph will bring it stateside someday soon.

Availability and pricing

The 2025 Triumph Speed T4 is available in India starting at ₹ 2,03,120, roughly $2,378 USD. Based on similar motorcycles, if it ever did arrive stateside, I estimate it would cost at least twice that amount.
