Most motorcycle enthusiasts are quite familiar with Triumph as a unique brand with a roller coaster history and a knack for producing both fresh and retro-styled bikes that unfailingly turn heads.

What you might not know, however, is that for than a decade, Triumph has served as the global partner for the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride.

To date, this annual fundraiser has raised more than $50 million to support prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.

This bike is so pretty you might not want to actually ride it through dirt and gravel. But you most certainly can.

With half a million riders suiting up and saddling up in 121 countries on May 18th, this year’s DGR should be a banger.

But if the prospect of joining a bunch of other gentlefolk on a big fun ride isn’t tempting enough, Triumph is sweetening the deal, as the top overall fundraiser will be rewarded with a very special Scrambler 1200.

Off-road warrior

Technically speaking, the winner can choose between an XE or X version of the Scrambler 1200 Icon Edition, with the second- and third-place fundraisers getting to choose other Modern Classics and the top 100 scoring an array of other cool moto-themed prizes.

But based on both DGR and Triumph’s marketing and common sense, the only logical selection is the XE, which is just so dang eye-popping.

The Scrambler’s high-riding exhaust pipes are a trademark feature of classically styled all-terrain bikes.

The bike’s retro good looks are highlighted by a deep black and silver paint scheme, hand-painted gold lining and the vintage gold 1907 Triumph script logo.

And as much as you might want to just park this thing in your den as a display item, its aesthetics are complemented by an array of excellent performance features, so you can sure as hell ride this bike too.

The 1200cc engine packs plenty of power and torque for a 507-pound bike.

Leading its most notable features is probably the engine, a 1200cc Bonneville twin cylinder with a Scrambler-specific tune that delivers 89 horsepower and 81.1 ft-lbs peak torque.

In addition to a rumbling power plant, the bike boasts a number of modern details that ensure you have a smooth ride and don’t haul off and crash the thing in the middle of the desert.

These include adjustable handlebars and foot controls, ride-by-wire throttle, cornering ABS, traction control, cruise control and six riding modes, including two dedicated off-road settings.

A big ol’ 21-inch front wheel rolls over logs and rocks while Brembo brake calipers help you stop in a hurry.

Also helping you keep the shiny side up are the latest Brembo Stylema brake calipers, premium Marzocchi suspension components (offering a generous 250mm of front and rear wheel travel) and Metzeler Tourance dual-purpose tubeless tires.

Throw in a 21-inch front wheel and you’ll be rolling over just about any obstacle Mother Nature can throw your way.

The Triumph logo on the gas tank dates back 118 years. The DGR-badged pannier is brand-new — and quite unique.
