Electric motorcycle fans were stoked when Spanish manufacturer Stark Future announced its first street-legal model, the Varg EX enduro, this past December.

But the latest news leak from the brand is even more exciting. According to motorcycle.com’s most dogged detective, a supermoto variant is also on the way.

The Stark Varg SM should be similar to the EX (above) but with smaller wheels and less suspension.

Industry veteran Dennis Chung uncovered this scoop through the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which published a VIN decoder for both the Varg EX and the Varg SM.

What’s even cooler is that crawl mode works not only forward, but in reverse. So rather than paddling your feet anytime you have to park, you can electrically back into a spot.

The supermoto version should be even sweeter on the street, thanks in part to a feature that’s already a game-changer for the EX and the original MX version of the bike: crawl mode.

So what is crawl mode, and what makes it so handy? Similar to the walk mode that many electric mountain bikes offer, it is essentially a very controlled low level of electrical assistance that can be activated at the touch of a button.

In the off-road context, this feature is super helpful if you happen to lose momentum or even tip over on an upward section of trail.

Rather than having to go all the way back down and try again, you can simply walk your bike up with a bit of electrical assistance to help you get over any obstacles. The below video from Stark’s YouTube page illustrates the feature quite nicely.

Meanwhile, on the streets, this capability can make it easier to simply load or unload a bike into or out of, say, the bed of a pickup truck.

But there’s another dimension that should come in even more handy on a supermoto-style bike that is sort of preternaturally excellent for rugged urban use already.

See, crawl mode works not only forward, but in reverse (check out a second Stark video below). So rather than paddling your feet anytime you have to park, you can electrically back into a spot.

As anyone who’s tried to park a motorcycle where there’s any sort of incline or cracks or bumps in the road knows, that can be a huge pain the traditional way, especially if you are on a heavier bike or a taller one where your feet can barely reach the ground.

While the Stark Varg EX tips the scales at a relatively light 264 pounds, the static SAG seat height is more than 38 inches.

Even with the supermoto version likely to be lower, that’s high enough that auto-style reverse will be awesome — not to mention much more dignified than having to get off the bike to park it.

Same difference

Chung presumes, and I agree, that the supermoto version of the Varg will differ mainly in having smaller wheels and less suspension.

It will most likely get 17-inch wheels rather than the Varg EX’s 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels, as well as less travel than that bike’s 11.8 inches in front and 11.9 inches in back.

The Varg SM should appear with two liquid-cooled electric motor configurations, a standard model putting out 60 horsepower and an Alpha version making 80 hp.

As well as the Varg EX performs on the road, the SM variant should be even better.

Like the Varg EX, the SM should get a 7.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack providing up to six hours of riding time and capable of a full recharge in two hours using a level 2 charger.

And it should be built on the same platform, meaning a Chromoly steel frame and carbon fiber subframe.

The change in wheel size and suspension should make the bike lower and lighter as well — another factor making it great not only for street use but also for newer and shorter riders.

Availability and pricing

The 2025 Stark Varg EX is expected to reach the US this June with a base price of $12,900.

Details for the Varg SM have not yet been released but now that the cat is out of the proverbial bag, let’s hope they emerge soon.
