When I reviewed Royal Enfield’s then-brand-new Super Meteor 650 in the fall of 2023, I was pretty much blown away.

While it’s by no means the greatest midsize cruiser I’ve ever ridden, what drops the jaw is its rare combination of good looks, performance, approachability and price.

That impressive blend made it a shoo-in for the GP100, our annual roundup of the year’s best products.

A year-and-a-half later, as the brand hypes an equally affordable touring kit, I’m reminded just how much the Chennai, India-based manufacturer is crushing it right now.

Otherworldly value

Before we get into the specifics of the touring kit, let’s quickly recap what makes this bike so special (even without the add-ons).

While it lacks some accoutrements other modern cruisers boast, the Super Meteor 650 does carry more critical ones (such as ABS) and with a base price of just $6,999, it threads one helluva needle.

Here’s an excerpt from the original review that sums it up pretty well…

“My first impressions after nine hours of seat time are pretty positive. The new 650 strikes me as a strong value proposition, a damn fine-looking bike and an excellent entry-level option for a new or beginning rider.

At the same time, its 648cc parallel twin engine delivers just enough oomph — 47 horsepower, 52.3 Nm of torque at 5,650 rpm, triple-digit top speed — to satisfy many who’ve been saddling up for much longer.”

One big selling point of the Super Meteor 650 is its approachability for people of all shapes, sizes and genders.

I also noted that with its 523-pound weight and 29.1-inch seat, it suits a wide range of riders, including two fellow riders at the launch event who could hardly be more dimensionally different: a 6’4”, 330-pound man and a woman with a 27-inch inseam.

While it lacks some accoutrements other modern cruisers boast (such as, you know, cruise control), the Super Meteor 650 does carry more critical ones (such as ABS) and with a base price of just $6,999, it threads one helluva needle.

Self-guided tourer

As I alluded to up top, my excitement for this bike was recently re-stoked by the brand’s Instagram and Facebook feeds, both of which referenced an affordable “touring kit.”

On the site itself, I could not find a direct reference to such a thing, but after just a few minutes of fiddling with the very fun and functional configurator, I was able to mock up exactly what you see in the promo image.

With just a few clicks in the configurator, you can build your own touring package.

It’s essentially the base model with a few key selections that upgrade it with all the accessories you need for the long haul.

To set one up yourself, all you need to do is go to the 650 Meteor configurator and in the Style section select either Celestial Red or Celestial Blue.

The Celestial trim level costs $500 more than the base price, but also boasts many touring-friendly features, including the deluxe touring seat, passenger backrest and large windscreen.

Upgrading a Celestial Red with deluxe footpegs and premium long-haul panniers basically recreates the advertised kit.

From there, go to the Comfort section and add the deluxe rider footpegs and premium long haul panniers and et voilà, instant touring bike!

Note: If you prefer one of the Astral or Interstellar paint jobs, you can select additional options to build a bike pretty similar to this one (minus the deluxe touring seat), with the cost being slightly lower for the Astral and slightly higher for the Interstellar.

In any case, the cost will be just a bit over $8,000, leaving in your wallet for additional accessories — or plenty of gas and coffee on your next interstate adventure.

Availability and pricing

With Royal Enfield’s configurator, the Super Meteor 650 can be outfitted with a Celestial paint job (complete with deluxe touring seat, large windscreen and passenger backrest), plus deluxe footpegs and hard panniers for $8,261. The base price of the bike is $6,999.
