Have you ever wished you grew up in a totally different time and place? Haven’t we all?

That’s certainly the feeling I get reading up on Giacomo Agostini, a dashing Italian motorcycle racer who won 15 world titles in the 350cc and 500cc classes from the mid-’60s through the mid-’70s.

The vast majority of those trophies — not to mention 123 overall wins, 18 Italian championship titles and 10 Tourist Trophy victories — came with the storied MV Agusta Racing Team.

Oh, to be knocking around Northern Italy at that time, smelling the petrol, hearing the roar of small-displacement engines and witnessing old-school moto racing at its finest. That plus some killer pasta and gelato would be simply eccezionale.

I am not even really sure how to describe the bike’s Akrapovič exhaust pipes, except to say they are serpentine, organ-like, mesmerizing … and they give me a reason to live.

While such a fantasy can’t actually happen for any of us, we can soak up some of the vibes and indulge our daydreams even further simply beholding MV Agusta’s latest release — the Superveloce 1000 Ago — a limited-edition tribute to the legendary racer.

In terms of aesthetics and performance and more, here are just a few things that jump out about this spellbinding motorcycle.

Fabulous form

Right off the bat, the attention to detail on display is incredible. While 2025 marks the brand’s 80th anniversary, the bike really honors the 83rd birthday of Agostini (Ago for short).

For that reason, MV Agusta is producing just 83 units, each of which is personally signed by Ago and individually numbered with a real gold plate attached to the steering head.

But here’s the coolest secret ingredient: each bike gets an ignition key whose milled aluminum shell features a brass coin made using material from an original trophy Ago won during his career and donated to MV Agusta specifically for this project.

Beyond those rare details, the bike also boasts full carbon fiber bodywork, finished in red and silver.

A yellow number 1 on the side pays homage to Ago, with the same yellow carried over to the CNC-machined headlamp crown, complemented by vintage-style silver-spoked wheels.

A leather strap runs over the fuel tank, festooned with a golden plaque that reads “15 Titoli Mondiali.” Translation: 15 world titles.

Lastly, on the looks: I am not even really sure how to describe the Akrapovič exhaust pipes, except to say they are serpentine, organ-like, mesmerizing … and they give me a reason to live.

Fantastic function

Considering the nearly six-figure price tag, it would not surprise me if many of these bikes get snapped up and put on display. But I truly hope that at least a few people actually ride this thing, because dammit if they don’t have the chops.

The Ago’s 998cc four-cylinder inline engine makes 208 horsepower at 13,000 RPM and 116.5 Nm of torque at 11,000 RPM. That’s power and pickup to spare at the shift of a gear and flick of a throttle.

The bike offers eight levels of (disengageable) traction control, plus four riding modes (including a customizable one), plus electronically assisted shifting, ride-by-wire acceleration and even cruise control.

It also features adjustable ABS and an integrated GPS module that pairs with the MV Ride app, enabling turn-by-turn navigation on a 5.5-inch TFT display.

Made of high-strength steel tubes, the trellis frame is integrated with aluminum plates that hinge the gorgeous aluminum alloy single-sided swingarm attached to the back wheel.

The Ago also boasts an Öhlins electronic suspension system with 120 mm of travel (front and rear), plus a premium Brembo braking system, which may not get that much use.

After all, once you fire up this absolute masterpiece, you will never, ever wanna stop.

But that’s not all…

Two more perks you do not get with your average motorcycle purchase: a made-to-measure Dainese Custom Works Demone GP 3X racing suit and an exclusive edition of the AGV Pista GP RR racing helmet.

These items, designed by MV Agusta in collaboration with Dainese, offer the ultimate in style, performance and protection.

This AGV helmet and Dainese suit are not available for individual purchase, making them exclusive to those lucky few who actually own the Superveloce 1000 Ago.

Made of soft, supple kangaroo leather, the suit features the latest D-air Racing Shield 3X airbag system, titanium shoulder and knee plates and a “pentaxial elasticated back” enabling you to move freely on the bike. You can even have your name stitched on the back.

The helmet, meanwhile, is one used by some world-class MotoGP racers. It boasts a full carbon shell, the optical class 1 Ultravision visor, the rear Pro Spoiler and the 360° Adaptive Fit interiors system.

It also features a color scheme inspired by Ago’s iconic tricolore livery, modernized with exposed carbon fiber pattern details, of course.

Availability and pricing

The MV Agusta Superveloce 1000 Ago is expected to exceed €80,000 (~$92,000). You can visit the bike’s page on MV Agusta’s site to be connected with a dealer.

As stated earlier, only 83 units will be produced, with 82 put on the market and one reserved for ol’ Agostini himself.
