Born in 2018, Dab Motors hit its stride when it embraced electricity as a fuel source in its Concept-E bike. A few short years later, French auto giant Peugeot purchased the company, helping evolve that concept bike into the 1α production model.

Now, that bike is getting another permutation — one that fans of off-road adventure will surely love. The Dab 1αX transforms the already impressive electric moto into a dirt-eating scrambler.

Dig up some dirt

As its name suggests, the Dab 1αX isn’t a huge departure from its sibling, the Dab 1α. In fact, they share most of the same DNA.

That includes its lightweight, minimalist chassis, meaning the bike weighs a mere 125 kilograms (about 275 pounds). It even retains some of the original’s most opulent features, like an Alcantara leather saddle and lined glove box.

However, it does have a few noteworthy changes. The most obvious is a tire swap — the Pirelli Diablo Rosso tires have been swapped out for knobby Scorpion Rally STRs. That means that while the bike is still a demon on the streets, it can also devour the dirt of the trails.

The brand has also worked with Airbus to develop an upcycled carbon fiber high front fender to accompany those tires. The new bike also gets fork protectors to add to its off-road prowess.

The knobby Pirelli tires are probably the most noticeable alteration and speak to the bike’s off-road capabilities.

Brrap-brrap? More like zap-zap

Although the Dab 1αX has some more off-road-friendly features that help make its styling a bit more aggressive, it still retains the bike’s signature all-electric powerplant and battery.

Like its street-going sibling, that means it can produce 395 NM of torque at the wheels. It also retains its recyclable and repairable 7.1 kWh battery, granting it a 150-kilometer (over 93 miles) range.

It also has a Brembo brake system, Peugeot Motorcycles ABS, an adjustable 43mm front fork and rear shock, a quartet of riding modes (Eco, Road, Sport, Nitrous and Reverse) and more.

The bike even has numerous customization options, so you can make it your own. However, the customization does come with a price increase relative to your chosen options.
