In 2023, BMW Motorrad, the Bavarian marque’s two-wheeled division, unleashed the CE 02 on the world. Described by the brand as an “eParkourer,” it skirted the lines between motorcycle, scooter and e-bike. It even included an available board rack for city-to-surf usage.

Now, BMW Motorrad France has pushed the bike’s limits even further with the BMW x Deus Ex Machina DE 02, a remarkably quirky, fascinating take that brings the party wherever the bike goes.

Pump up the volume

The bike was crafted in collaboration between BMW Motorrad France and Deus Ex Machina, an apparel brand that moonlights as a moto customization shop. The latter brand brought influence from its Deus Records line, a “highly graphic clothing capsule, blending musical culture through quality pieces and musical events.”

As such, the build centers around noise — more specifically, music. It’s a concept as clear as day when viewing the bike from the right angle.

Where the bike’s surf rack would normally go, there’s instead a “DJ booth,” comprised of a quartet of Marshall Middleton portable speakers with a Deus Records sign at its center. Except, it’s not just a sign; it’s a transforming rack with a genuine turntable (the DJ kind, not the vinyl kind), hidden within it.

Park the bike, pop up the turntable, and this electric vehicle turns into a mobile music-making party station — no extras required. Better yet, even with these new additions (and all the other stylistic swaps), it’s still a street-legal electric vehicle.

Life is a highway

Like its siblings, this take on the CE 02 still has an electric belt drive that’s good for up to 15 horsepower, 56 miles per charge and 59 mph. It can also charge up to 80 percent in under three hours. However, there are some other noteworthy changes.

For instance, this version has a custom-made leather saddle with Deus Records embroidery. It also has consistent styling and coloring from tip to tail, including the DJ rack itself.

It also got a custom-made license plate holder, new LED headlights, shortened indicators and profiled mirrors. If you want to see it for yourself, it’s going to be touring France and will be exhibited at several BMW Motorrad dealerships, as well as several Deus Ex Machina boutiques.

Because it is built into the bike’s existing geometry, the rack doesn’t impede the ride in any way.

One-of-a-kind

Although the BMW x Deus Ex Machina DE 02 is a one-off (and, therefore, isn’t available for sale), nothing can stop you from making your own based on a BMW CE 02, which starts at $7,599.
