The trouble with custom motorcycles is that, more often than not, they’re one-off products. By the time most of us lay our eyes on them, they’re usually spoken for and rarely built more than once.

That was nearly the fate of Bandit9’s take on the Ducati Monster 821. This drop-dead gorgeous street rocket of a bike began as a one-off commission, but now the brand is building more of them … and they’re for sale.

Make out like a bandit

If you’re not familiar with the Ducati Monster 821, it’s a naked sportbike — meaning it lacks fairings and engine covers and sports a performance-focused build. While this bike is clearly an extensive reimagining in terms of its design, it maintains the performance that the core bike is known for.

At the bike’s heart is a 821 cc V-twin engine with a whopping 110 brake horsepower. While this bike isn’t exactly lightweight, weighing in at over 385 pounds, it’s still very much a speed demon.

Even with the stylistic changes and the addition of a full fairing, it can still hit speeds of up to 125 mph and do 0-60 in a blistering 3.3 seconds. But that’s to be expected, considering the bike it’s based on is a racing-focused beast.

The bike’s 16L fuel tank also makes it suitable for pretty long rides. That capacity grants it about 145 miles of range between refuels, which is a good thing, since you’ll want to stay on top of this beauty as long as you can.

Silver bullet

Performance is only one part of the equation. The other is craftsmanship. And while the bike can definitely tear up the tarmac, its how Bandit9 has transformed it that really helps it stand apart.

That starts with the obvious: the full fairing. The bike’s bodywork has been completely reimagined, handcrafted out of a combination of hand-polished aluminum (for the forward fairing) and carbon fiber (for the seat).

The polished aluminum is also applied to a pair of fork covers and the gas cap. Furthermore, the bike gets custom mirrors, fenders, foot pegs and rear controls, plus a custom integrated exhaust and muffler.

The list goes on and on, but perhaps it’s best to put it in the brand’s own words: “Every component has been redesigned and hand-fabricated to achieve a singular concept: unity.”

Tip to tail, this bike is a masterpiece — a brilliant blend of engineering and art.
