Triumph’s Gorgeous, Affordable Roadster Refresh Boasts Much More Than Race-Ready Looks

The Trident 660 Triple Tribute Edition may honor a champion ’70s bike, but its most winning features are thoroughly modern.

“This is not the greatest song in the world, no, this is just a tribute…”

So sings the great Tenacious D in 2002’s parodical “Tribute,” which still manages to be a pretty awesome song.

Along similar lines, Triumph’s new Trident 660 Triple Tribute Edition is a fantastic motorcycle in its own right.

This bike proves, yet again, that no one blends modern and vintage styling better than Triumph does.

While that’s thanks partly to the racing-inspired trim that delivers on the promise of the fourth word in its tongue-twisting name, it’s far from the only reason this bike rocks.

No, this shiny demon’s particular blend of paint, performance and price is indeed quite rare.

Trading paint

At a glance, the new bike certainly bears a resemblance to the original 2025 edition that surfaced last spring.

Following in that release’s tire tracks, this 2026 model also honors an old bike dubbed ‘Slippery Sam.’

Where this Trident really excels is with a number of upgrades that tap into recent, approachability-oriented motorcycle trends.

This legendary Trident, ahem, triumphed at the Isle of Man TT, one of the world’s most challenging and dangerous motorcycle circuits, five consecutive times in the early ’70s.

Toward that end, the new 660 leans even more modern, graphically, than its immediate predecessor, while still hearkening back to those glory days.

Its sleek sapphire black bodywork is unmistakably complemented by bold Cobalt Blue and Diablo Red highlights across the tank, tail and front end.

These accents, together with the iconic 67 race number graphic on the tank, remind those who know of this nameplate’s trophy-studded heritage.

Rider-friendly future

Aside from looks, where this new edition really excels past the 2025 model year bike is with a number of upgrades that tap into recent, approachability-oriented motorcycle trends.

In the past few years, I’ve seen a huge uptick in the number of bikes that make shifting simpler — if not entirely unnecessary.

This particular one does so via Triumph Shift Assist, which enables easy-breezy clutchless gear changes.

The 31.7-inch seat height is not super low, but the 419-pound wet weight should ease handling for noobs.

Unlike its predecessor, this Tribute also boasts cruise control (standard), optimized cornering ABS and traction control.

There’s also a full-color TFT screen with handlebar controls and support for the My Triumph Connectivity System, which integrates your smartphone, music and turn-by-turn navigation.

On that screen, you can also toggle through three riding modes: Road, Rain and the new Sport, which offers a sharper throttle response for a more adrenaline-filled, high-performance experience.

Relative to the bike’s weight, the engine’s 80 horsepower and 47 ft-lb of torque should provide plenty of zip.

Adding to this bike’s accessibility are a comfortable upright riding position and a light, nimble running weight of just under 419 pounds.

A slim tank and wide bars should prove confidence-inspiring for smaller and/or less experienced riders.

(Could the seat height — 31.7 inches — be a bit lower for the shorter-inseamed among us? Perhaps, but it could be higher, too.)

From tip to tail, the fine fit and finish of this moto might have you mistaking it for one with a much higher price tag.

Of course, more experienced folks will still find plenty of two-lane twisty joy in the 660cc engine’s 80 horsepower at 10,250 rpm and 47 ft-lb of torque at 6,250 rpm.

Smooth power delivery throughout the rev range and ride-by-wire throttle should make any rider feel like a champion.

I would not go so far as to say a bike like this one comes around once every hundred thousand years or so, but it is still pretty special.

Availability and pricing

The Triumph Trident 660 Triple Tribute Edition will begin rolling into dealerships this June at a starting price of $8,745.
