No matter how you feel about electric motorcycles, there’s no question that the design and engineering that goes into them has a knock-on effect on the industry as a whole.

For instance, nearly every electric moto shifts automatically, a factor helping to drive more and more traditional brands to introduce bikes that shift more easily (if not automatically).

My biggest beef with the new NC750X is probably the color — Matte Pearl White is the only shade it comes in.

Another example derives from the fact that these bikes locate their batteries close to their motors, rendering the area where the fuel tank typically resides a blank canvas that often becomes a storage unit.

These two particular points bring me to one of the more interesting gas bikes around, the 2025 Honda NC750X, which implements both influences in innovative ways.

For those of us living in areas where it’s unwise to leave helmets hanging on handlebars, the frunk is huge — and for anyone else, congrats, you can say goodbye to riding around lugging a backpack.

The result is an ultra-capable, rider-friendly, borderline all-purpose motorcycle that somehow still manages to keep its price tag in the (high) four figures.

Automatic whims

With its continuously evolving E-Clutch system, Honda has really been at the forefront of the easier shifting movement, but that’s not all.

For several years now, the brand has also manufactured bikes with automatic Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) tech that requires no shifting at all.

Honda

While I personally love the incomparable satisfaction of operating a manual motorcycle, times are changing, and Honda is clearly changing with them.

In the case of the NC750x, the 745cc liquid-cooled four-stroke 55º parallel-twin sits waiting for you to simply twist the throttle and go, with Honda Selectable Torque Control (HTSC) and four ride modes supplying the precise level of acceleration and handling you desire.

That’s especially true with the 2025 bike, which offers smoother shifting dynamics plus dual-disc front brakes and an upgraded five-inch TFT instrument display with Honda RoadSync compatibility.

While the NC750X is a member of Honda’s adventure category, the brand offers several other bikes — including the Africa Twin and Transalp — that are much more off-road capable.

The suspension, meanwhile, has not been updated, but didn’t really need it: the 4.7 inches of front and rear travel more than adequately cushion a curb weight of 497 pounds.

That means this “adventure” bike can go pretty much anywhere, even if Honda itself would admit it’s most at home on paved surfaces. This bike is an urban warrior if I’ve ever seen one.

We want the frunk

As notable as the automatic transmission is, the NC750X’s real point of difference — and the motivation behind this story’s headline — is something even rarer.

While many electric motorcycles feature storage in the traditional fuel tank area, this gas bike is unique in providing some.

Unprecedented for a gas bike, the frunk offers enough space to stash a full-face helmet and more.
Honda

Specifically, right behind the handlebars, the NC750X boasts a lockable 23-liter frunk, offering enough space to store most full-faced helmets, plus other essentials.

Pro tip: Maximize the available space by stashing items in the helmet itself before placing it in the frunk.

For those of us living in areas where it’s unwise to leave helmets hanging on handlebars, that’s huge — and for anyone else, congrats, you can say goodbye to riding around lugging a backpack.

The upper fairing now sits higher on the frame, while new mounting points make it easier to remove for maintenance.

Interestingly, the frunk may simply be a byproduct of Honda placing the fuel tank under the seat (or vice versa), which has the effect of lowering the bike’s center of gravity and increasing its stability, which boosts rider confidence at speed and during tighter turns.

The 2025 edition of the NC750X also features updates to its LED headlight, seat stitching, faux tank storage cover, wheels and fairing. But no matter what Honda does with this bike, as long as the frunk stays, it shall remain practically one of a kind.
