America’s biggest motorcycle manufacturer just announced its 2025 bikes, and wow do we have ourselves a high-octane smorgasbord, including six updated Cruisers, the new Street Glide Ultra, new Sportster S and four CVOs

However, the launch I’m most excited about is a bit off the beaten path, so to speak.

That’s right, this longtime urbanite can’t stop daydreaming about a bike sitting squarely in the “adventure sport” category: the 2025 Pan America 1250 ST.

Taking it all in, I could actually see this motorcycle serving as one hell of an everyday ride, even for folks who don’t often — or ever — tackle dirt and gravel.

Not so unlikely appeal

Often products optimized for one use turn out to be great for another. This scenario happens regularly with vehicles overbuilt for city and suburban life, yet ever-present in these environments.

The most obvious example is muscular four-wheel-drive SUVs, the vast majority of which stick to paved roads, but we see it with two wheelers too. Just look at gravel bikes, which are fantastic for navigating pot-holed or precipitation-slicked streets.

The liquid-cooled Revolution Max 1250 engine boasts 149 horsepower and 91ft-lbs of torque at its peak. That’s more than enough juice to burst from a traffic jam and zip out to the country where only triple-digit speeds can slake one’s thirst.

Harley itself is clearly aware of this particular phenomenon, positioning the ST (short for sport touring) as “a practical daily ride, an exciting back-road apex chaser and a capable weekend touring mount.”

Indeed, this new Pan America — which, impressively, retains the base price it had when I test rode the original four years ago — has plenty of compelling features for the less adventurous among us. Here are four that jump out.

1. Power to spare

The brand spent years developing an engine specifically for adventure bikes, and this one is a beast.

The liquid-cooled Revolution Max 1250 boasts a broad powerband with 149 horsepower and 91ft-lbs of torque at its peak. That’s more than enough juice to burst from a traffic jam and zip out to the country where only triple-digit speeds can slake one’s thirst.

Interestingly, this engine is actually integrated into the ST’s chassis as a load-bearing element, a double-duty dynamic that shaves weight and boosts rigidity, ultimately making for a more responsive ride.

2. Sitting pretty — and comfortably

Adventure bikes tend to intimidate newer and shorter riders because the seat heights are often prohibitive. They are also a necessary evil, because you need substantial ground clearance in order to ride such bikes over uneven surfaces.

That being said, the ST’s seat is pretty inviting, relatively speaking. The contoured singular unit sits 0.5 inches shorter than that of the Pan America 1250 Special’s.

With adaptive ride height (suspension tech that automatically lowers the bike when stopping), the seat can go as low as 31.7 inches, a full inch lower than the Special.

3. Multi-surface capability

Though the more approachable seat height sacrifices some suspension versus the Special, you still get 6.75 inches of travel and 6.7 inches of ground clearance for navigating off-road terrain.

Meanwhile, robust Brembo brakes, a user-friendly Quickshifter and a lower center of gravity ensure both safety and twisty-borne joy on paved roads.

That being said, should you choose to ditch the tarmac, you’ll probably want to swap the stock Michelin Scorcher Sport tires for something grippier, such as Michelin Scorcher Adventure tires.

4. Good ol’ good looks

Appearance is hard to quantify, but I’ve always thought the Pan America looks cooler and less technical than your average adventure (or sport, or touring) bike, even if the die-hards bemoan the fact that it doesn’t really look like a Harley.

I remember being at the launch/test ride event in the Mojave Desert way back in 2021, when H-D designers told us one big rule they made as “no beaks.” They’ve stuck to that one, while the contours and colors have gotten progressively better in the years since.

I for one would be proud to gaze out my window at the new ST, ready to rip all over the city and far beyond. How about you?

Availability and pricing

The 2025 Pan America 1250 ST is available now at authorized Harley-Davidson dealerships around the world. The bike’s base price is $19,999, with options like the Vivid Black paint scheme shown on this page increasing that figure.
