For years, Baratza’s Encore has sat atop our guide to the best coffee grinders you can buy, scoring major points for its consistency, ease of maintenance and customer service. But even as the best of the best we tested, it still wasn’t completely perfect.

However, the brand has just taken another big step in that direction with the launch of the Baratza Encore ESP Pro. This advanced edition maintains nearly everything there was to love about its predecessors but improves its overall precision, user-friendliness and more.

Precision is the name of the game

Overall, the Encore ESP Pro maintains the previous models’ look and (more importantly) footprint. So, if you want to upgrade, you won’t have to make additional room or discover too late that this new one doesn’t quite fit under your kitchen cabinets.

It also retains some of the original’s best features. That includes the brand’s lauded Baratza M2 precision steel burrs, one of the huge reasons the Encore series is so consistent in its grinds.

However, the ESP Pro also gets some serious precision and technological upgrades. For instance, it gets an all-new step-less grind adjustment mechanism, allowing for a remarkable 2.2 microns of vertical burr movement per degree of adjustment rotation.

It also has a pair of operational modes. The first is the Single Dose mode: Fill the grinder with your pre-measured beans, and it will automatically stop when the final bean is ground. The second is a Timer Mode, which is more hopper-friendly and boasts dosing accuracy to a tenth of a second.

As if that were not enough, the grinder also features new ion-generating tech that reduces latent static in the beans, helping to minimize messes and keep your grounds from sticking to the machine.

Finally, one of our chief issues with the original Encore is that its plastic housing felt cheap. This one swaps the precision grind adjustment mechanism and the exterior housing for heavy-duty, anodized, die-cast metal.

Your own personal barista

Obviously, the Encore ESP Pro offers a legion of upgrades, but that’s not even all of them. There are also some other user-friendly bonuses worth mentioning.

For starters, it includes a set of LED downlights to help illuminate key areas of the grinder during operation without blinding you. It also includes a 54/58mm espresso Dosing Cup, a Single Dose Hopper and a cleaning brush for routine maintenance.

Most importantly, it’s backed by Baratza’s rock-solid customer service and “Don’t Dump It, Fix It” program. That means, if something goes awry, you can contact the brand to fix it or replace it, granting the grinder a decades-long lifespan.

Pricing and availability

The Baratza Encore ESP Pro will debut at the 2025 Specialty Coffee Association Expo this weekend (April 25-27) in Houston. After that, it will be available for $300 on the brand’s site, as well as at select coffee roasters and various online and in-person retail spaces.
