A Red Dot Design Award is more than a status symbol. The distinction recognizes expertly designed products that contribute to a more beautiful and functional world. Since 1955, brands have submitted tens of thousands of entries to be considered for an award. The jury, comprised of experts in product design, communication design and design concepts, award products in a range of categories from cars to tech gadgets. Check out six home and design winners — from a high chair to a sound-absorbing tower — from this year’s Red Dot Design Awards.
Thonet N.200 Lounge Chair

Thonet’s famous bentwood furniture is not new. In fact, it’s close to 200 years old. The first furniture-making Thonet discovered he could bend certain woods that were soaked with enough moisture (he used steam) and create uniform, unnatural shapes out of a natural material. The N.200 is a modern, lounge chair take on one of furniture design’s most iconic creations.
