These New Protein Bars Claim to Slow Down the Effects of Alcohol

Sobar protein bars claim to slow down alcohol absorption in the body, better than eating regular food alone.

Sobar, founded by Joseph Fisher, Ph.D, is a new snack that is built to reduce peak blood alcohol content by 50 percent, as tested on a 21-person sample size. The protein bars — available in white chocolate almond, honey peanut and caramel macchiato — are formulated to delay stomach emptying, during which alcohol is transferred to the small intestine where alcohol absorption is fastest.

To maximize the protein bar’s effectiveness, the brand recommends eating a bar five to 15 minutes before drinking, but no more than 30 minutes prior to your first drink. Sobar is made with allulose, a low-calorie sugar, which may result in a laxative effect due to excessive Alluose consumption.

Sobar protein bars come in a 12-pack for $30 and is available now.
