Ratio Eight’s automatic pour-over brewer might be the only coffee pot worthy of being called a statement piece. But the brewer also brewed to the Specialty Coffee Association’s (SCA) Gold Cup Standard, which requires a brewer to consistently turn out pots of coffee at an exacting 18 to 22 percent extraction, or what the SCA deems the ideal extraction rate for peak coffee flavor. The catch: the Ratio Eight retails over $500. Live on Kickstarter now, Ratio’s new brewer provides a more affordable alternative.
Halfway through its crowdfunding campaign, the Ratio Six ditches the Eight’s Chemex carafe for a more traditional stainless carafe and pour-over basket combination. Is it as aesthetically appealing as the glass carafe? No, but it will keep a pot of coffee hot significantly longer. The pour-over basket also doubles as a catch for water dripping from the head after a brew is complete.
Backing options for the Kickstarter campaign start at $231, and Ratio says the machine will ship by December of this year.
