Walmart’s Take on Ikea Furniture Isn’t Half Bad

Walmart’s new private-label furniture line looks a whole lot better than you’d expect.

Walmart’s MoDRN collection is the retailer’s first full-scale private label home line. And, to the surprise of many, it doesn’t look half bad.

The 650-piece mountain of stools, tables, rugs and more vaguely references mid-century design in some products and Ikea’s clean Scandinavian look in others. It comes after a few years of Walmart’s chief competitors launched their own private labels — Target’s much-loved Project 62, Amazon’s Rivet collection and Wayfair’s many, many in-house lines. Prices are in line with those competitors as well — expect sub-$1,000 couches, ultra-cheap planters and a whole lot of particle board storage in the $200 to $400 range.
