In 2011, British designer Samuel Wilkinson, Hulger and lighting brand Plumen created the 001 bulb — a double-looped, energy-saving, contemporary answer to the original Edison bulb.
The 001 won Design of the Year from Design Museum in London in 2011, selection jury chair Stephen Bailey saying of it, “The Plumen light bulb is a good example of the ordinary thing done extraordinarily well, bringing a small measure of delight to an everyday product.” Now, the 001 comes in LED form.
Reported by Dezeen, the award-winning bulb is now dimmable, has a 20,000 hour lifespan (roughly 20 years) and is recyclable.
