With over 50 years in the game, there’s a reason why Moccamaster has become the absolute king of modern coffee brewers.

But what exactly is a coffee ‘brewer?’ Moccamaster’s devices are designed to do more than your average coffee maker. Each machine has been engineered to brew perfect, pour-over quality coffee that reveals the true flavor that your grower — and roaster — intended.

Everything from the water temperature to the coffee ground saturation time to the turbulence the water creates as it moves through the coffee grounds has been dialed to perfection. So buckle up, gear up, and discover a better way to brew in the morning.

The Backstory

Moccamaster: A Legacy of Form and Function

Moccamaster designed its very first coffee brewer in 1968 and has been brewing quality cups for almost 60 years.

Its founder, Gerard Clement Smit, dedicated his entire career to understanding the science of coffee so he could create machines that could brew it properly. Today, each device is guaranteed to hit the correct water temperature (196° – 205° F) and the perfect coffee ground saturation time (four – six minutes). From there, the ‘turbulence’ has been optimized to ensure the ideal ratio of ‘total dissolved solids’ (i.e. 18% – 22% ).

The resulting brew ensures what true coffee pros call ‘The Golden Cup,’ which for the more casual user, is a good way of saying: The best cup of coffee you’ll ever have.

The Gist

Looking to Try Moccamaster? Start With the KBGV Select.

While Moccamaster boasts a wide range of devices for a wide range of users, the KBGV Select is a great machine to start with because of its versatility. For example, the 1.25 liter brewer is designed to fill a glass carafe, and its ‘selector switch’ makes it easy to choose between a half or completely full carafe.

Of course, no matter what you choose, every brew will hit the Golden Cup standard. Moccamaster designed its hot plate’s heating element to function completely independently from the machine’s water boiling element. This means that the hotplate can keep coffee at the perfect temperature, without burning what’s in the carafe. Then, 100 minutes after each brew, it will automatically turn off to save you an extra trip to the kitchen.
