The 2017 World of Coffee event is underway in Budapest, with brewers, roasters and coffee aficionados flocking to compete in brewing competitions and unveil new products. In the latter category, a small-batch, countertop sample roaster out of Norway is catching eyes and garnering accolades. RØST is the type of appliance that professional coffee roasters would use to dial in a roast formula, or produce small-batch runs of a particular coffee — and it just earned the designation of “Best New Product” in the Technology category at World of Coffee.
As Sprudge points out, it’s one of a handful of small-batch sample roasters to be announced in recent months. But what sets RØST apart is its design. Crafted from clean, minimal Norwegian birch wood and stainless steel, with a small window that reveals a blue gas flame, it’s just as aesthetically pleasing as it is functional.
Available for preorder now, the RØST will retail for €5,000 ($5,600) and is slated to ship later this year.
