Conversations about charcoal grilling usually start, and end, with the Weber Kettle. If it isn’t the single most iconic piece of cookware in America, it could be the most popular.
Since the grill’s debut in 1952, Weber has sold millions of Kettles all across the world, with thousands more every spring and summer. Most of them feature the same glossy finish, indicative of the Kettle’s signature porcelain-enameled exterior.
Matte is the new black
As first spotted by one Redditor, however, Weber will soon flip the script on the 73-year-old formula, releasing the 22-inch Kettle in a unique matte-black finish.

It appears that the change is purely cosmetic, with no change to the lid and bowl material itself. That means that the scratch-, rust- and heat-resistant properties of porcelain-enameled steel will carry over to the new variant. The built-in lid thermometer, handles, ash catcher, legs and wheels are all black, as well, elevating its deck appeal.
