Where the St. Louis Blues’ (now Detroit Red Wings) Robby Fabbri capped off a Stanley Cup victory off by slugging a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle Rye on the ice June of last year, Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl-winning tight end Travis Kelce reached for Crown. Kelce, who caught a one-yard touchdown to bring the Chiefs within a field goal late in the game, is gifting each and every Chiefs player a bottle of Crown Royal XR to tote during the team’s victory parade.
For the uninitiated, XR isn’t standard issue Crown. It’s the rarest bottle in a line of bottles called the “Extra Rare Whisky Series.” It’s a blend of Canadian whiskies and it includes one of the last batches of whisky distilled at the long-closed LaSalle Distillery. Bottles, if you find them, retail for $140.
An actual truckload of high-end Canadian whisky is Kelce’s second boozey Super Bowl celebration (that we know of). The first was a successful luge of Bud Light down the base of the Lombardi trophy, as documented in the above Instagram post. “Growing up playing hockey, I always wanted to chug out of the Stanley Cup after being crowned a Champion…. No cup on the Lombardi, so I decided to take a ride down the Lombardi Luge!!” Kelce wrote.
