Two years after releasing From the Barrel, Nikka, the second-largest Japanese whisky maker behind Suntory, is bringing a new expression to the U.S.
Called Nikka Days, it’s an 80 proof malt and grain whisky blend priced at $50 a bottle, with bottles arriving in select markets now. According to the company, it’s designed for use in cocktails, highballs and drinking on the rocks.
This puts it in the Toki bracket of Japanese whiskies, along with another new brand called Tenjaku, which are primarily marketed as mixers and “easy drinkers,” in contrast to the high-end bottles that made Japanese whisky famous.
The company says bottles will be available in California, New York, Texas, Illinois, Massachusetts, Florida and Tennessee this year, with more to come in 2021.
