Our Place Releases the Wonder Oven: Our First Impressions

You’re almost certainly familiar with Our Place. The trendy and colorful kitchenware brand has probably come across your radar on Instagram or TikTok, on this very site or even in your own kitchen. For the past few years, the DTC brand has practically taken over the internet with its multi-use, beginner-friendly cookware, such as the viral Always Pan and Perfect Pot. Now, Our Place is expanding into a whole new arena of cooking gear with the release of its first-ever kitchen appliance: the Wonder Oven.

What is the Our Place Wonder Oven?

Ever since the Instant Pot blew up several years back, multicookers and countertop ovens have taken over the countertop appliance space. It seems customers no longer want a separate toaster, air fryer, convection oven, etc. when one appliance can do it all for less money in a lot less space. It shouldn’t be surprising, then, that Our Place has gone the multi-use route with its Wonder Oven… especially considering that the Always Pan is billed as a 10-in-1 “system” and the Perfect Pot boasts 8 cooking functions.

Our Place’s Wonder Oven is a countertop oven that can air fry, bake, roast, toast, reheat and broil. In typical Our Place fashion, it comes in four striking matte colorways: Steam (beige), Blue Salt (blue), Char (dark gray) and Spice (orange-ish). Outside of the colors, this at first seems like a pretty normal multi-use countertop oven, but the Wonder Oven has a few tricks up its sleeve justifying its wonderful name.

What does the Our Place Wonder Oven do?

One interesting feature of the Wonder Oven is it’s a bit taller than other countertop ovens and has multiple levels, meaning you can use two racks at once just like in a full-size oven. Another feather in its cap — and arguably the biggest feather — is that it features steam infusion technology. This works in conjunction with the toasting and reheating features and allows for crispier results when you add just a couple of teaspoons of water. We’ve seen this feature before on the beautiful but expensive Balmuda Toaster Oven, which costs $100 more than the Wonder Oven while lacking its other cooking functions.

Editor’s Note: We’re in the midst of testing the Wonder Oven for a full review to come after we’ve properly put it through its paces, but for now, here are our initial thoughts after spending a limited time with the oven in our kitchen.

Our Place’s new Wonder Oven is, in a word, beautiful — sharing the same aesthetic as everything the brand puts out. It’s just as charming in person as the photos would suggest. Having said that, it’s actually quite large, as well, standing at least a third taller than my existing standard-sized toaster oven. Luckily, it still fits well underneath my over-counter cabinets (there are about six-or-so inches between the top of the device and the underside of the cabinets, which is enough room for a bit of storage). But that extra height translates to a much larger cooking space — one that appears big enough to accommodate a small chicken (definitely at least the size of a Cornish game hen) — with heating elements at the top and bottom, as well as two rack slots (one at the bottom and a second about halfway up) and a trio of different racks included.

The controls are sublimely simple and amount to a trio of knobs: one for temperature (200-450 degrees Fahrenheit), one for cooking style (bake, toast, air fry, broil, etc.), and one for time (the timer goes up to 60 minutes). And at the top, there’s a small funnel so you can add water to your toast cycle, which keeps your bread from drying out as you toast it. All told, it very much seems like this countertop oven is exactly what it looks like: an attractive and very miniaturized version of a full-sized oven. And I am excited to discover just how often I’ll choose it over my other devices.
