Even for Nike’s Longstanding Super Shoe, This Feature Is a First

The Vaporfly may be the single most influential running shoe in history.

Although Nike’s supercharged marathon racer sprinted onto the scene less than a decade ago, the Vaporfly has already changed records, rules and overall shoe design.

Now, nearly every brand on the road offers their own take on Nike’s recipe of a carbon-fiber plate sandwiched between layers of highly responsive foam.

But just when you think you’ve seen it all, the brand from Beaverton pulls out another trick hidden under its sleeve — and this time, it’s in the form of a one-of-a-kind colorway elevating the Vaporfly 4, Nike’s latest generation of its most iconic super shoe.

Releasing later this week, the eye-catching Vaporfly 4 Light Trails is the brand’s funkiest color scheme to date, featuring a kaleidoscope of reds, yellows, greens and blues designed to mimic streaks of light in motion. But that’s not even its most novel attribute.

Hidden under normal light conditions, the shoe also glows in the dark, with parts of the tongue and midsole boasting phosphorescent accents that come alive under the bright lights — making this a model seemingly born for night sessions on the track.

That said, you could do much worse any time of day. This generation of the Vaporfly is Nike’s lightest to date, with the brand claiming a 10 percent weight reduction compared the Vaporfly 3.

Pricing and availability

The Vaporfly 4 Light Trails will be available from April 24, 2025.

Although Nike has previously given minor price hikes some limited editions of its super shoes, this one clocks in at $260 — the same price as the other launch colorways of the Vaporfly 4.
