In our review of the Nike Pegasus 40, one of editors shrewdly noted that “you’d expect a landmark 40th iteration to have more updates across the board.” Someone important at Nike was definitely taking notes.

The updated version of our best daily trainer for beginner pick and one of Runner’s World’s best overall running shoe picks adds a slew of technical chops that may help the shoe catch the eye of more advanced runners, too.

Nike Pegasus 41

The most significant change coming to Nike’s iconic Pegasus line is the introduction of the ReactX foam, initially announced in July of 2023, which finally makes its way to the company’s bread-and-butter running shoe.

According to Nike, the Pegasus 41’s full-length ReactX foam midsole and forefoot can provide 13 percent more energy return than the previous React foam.

That change alone addresses one of the most common complaints of the previous generation, which, as Runner’s World puts it, boiled down to cushioning being responsive, “but not especially bouncy.”

More importantly for the planet, Nike also notes that the new foam reduces the shoe’s carbon footprint by at least 43 percent.

The shoe also looks sharper and less doofy than the previous Pegasus 40.

Availability and Pricing

The Nike Pegasus 41 is available now at Nike and select retailers for $140. At launch, there are five colorways, including Nike’s signature Volt, which features a tonal midsole. On the listing, a classic black-and-white version says “coming soon.”

If you’re looking for value, the new version of the Pegasus brings extra discounts to last year’s model, the Pegasus 40. Pick up a pair for as little as $69.
