Only founded in 2009, Hoka doesn’t have the longstanding pedigree of some legacy brands. But that hasn’t stopped it from becoming one of the biggest names in running.
The brand, formerly known as Hoka One One, now reports close to $2 billion in sales per year thanks to the popularity of its ultracomfortable shoes for running and walking — not to mention its podium-making trail runners like the Tecton X and Speedgoat.
The brand’s signature formula combines heavily cushioned, often oversized midsoles with advanced materials and shoe geometry. For example, fans of the brand swear by its MetaRocker technology — basically a taper toward the front of its shoes that creates a smooth and efficient transition underfoot.
If you’re new to Hoka and don’t know where to start, the brand just made it easy by dropping the price of the Transport and Clifton models, two of its best shoes for walking, commuting and light hiking.

Most Hoka shoes are designed with runners in mind. They transition seamlessly to slower paces but, with loud colors and airy uppers, still look like they’re made for joggers chasing new personal bests.
